(Game is Hearts of Iron 4: The New Order, the good Axis victory timeline mod).
I disagree. HoI4 has flaws that won’t be DLC’d away, sure (AI for example) but I find that the accessibility and expanded systems (production) worth it over HoI3 or even DH. Plus, the mods can create a lot of interesting gameplay scenarios like KR removing the US as an international force or trying to survive/coordinate as Angola in TNO.
Which is exactly why I actually prefer TNO to Kaiserreich at this point. I'm extremely bad at the actual gameplay of HoI4 (it is by far the least intuitive of any Paradox game I've played, perhaps even more so than Vicky2) so I much prefer the prose and character-building of TNO to the gameplay focus of Kaiserreich.
Hoi4 isn't very good as a World War 2 simulator because all the focus is on the dumb alt-history, so it's essentially a sandbox set in World War 2. The focus trees tend to railroad or just break the game because they're all incompatible with each other in alt history. But they do work to tell a narrative in TNO because of the way they script events
i have finished like 20 odd games of modded hoi 4, i never even got to 1942 for any vanilla games
I played this and remade the USSR as Zhukov, then it told me that was the end of content. Have the devs said when you can invade the Nazis yet?
I think you can cheat and invade RK Moskowien and Nazi Germany proper with reunified USSR, it has no events but eh. Aaaaaaaaaaand I think there is a TNO addon that adds new events for Goring's Germany in which he launches another invasion of the USSR that goes well... it's an absolute massacre.
In the 70s content update (labelled TNO2) which is quite a while away from now.
Ok that's cool, judging from the tech tree are they going all the way to 2000?
They said any continuity past 1982 would be a pipedream, though they'd consider making a spin-off of sorts starting at 1982 with its own canon.
Is the mod fun? The premise is incredibly grim and fighting a nuclear nazi germany sounds miserable. I'll probably still give it a shot if the writing is good and if the left has a decent shot at winning
I had a fuckton of fun playing TNO, the writing is excellent and god knows how they managed to find so many obscure characters to make them leaders/important people in their timeline. It's a realistic representation of what would happen if the Nazis won the war, everything falls appart very shortly, it's not an ideology nor a system designed to keep itself alive for too long. You can play as Nazi Germany and take Gorings path and you will see, it's sheer chaos.
I still haven't been able to reunite Russia as Sablin, the most wholesome lefty ever. Fucking Rurik owns me every time.
I’m optimistic that the dev team has been moving left since the creator logged off. Still radlib but not inherently anticommunist/revolutionary anymore.
Eh, the whole "gray scare" and the US supporting communists to fight fascism is comical.
I should mention that the country writing teams didn’t work together. Hence why non-lib left paths are doomed in the US and Britain, but not in Russia.
Oh yeah. Harrington is some blessed reformist fantasy escapism.
Also, even if I hate LBJ (Vietnam and all), I found his path funny. He essentially goes on a bullying spree to get the Great Society passed.
It's very fun. Reforming the USSR as Yagoda and also kicking out Yagoda and removing the dictatorship is one of the most fun games I've had in Hoi4
There's certainly axis victory mods written by fascists.
Though I'm sure not on the steam store or paradox forums since they don't allow mods that include explicit genocide.
IDK, maybe they draw the line at pro-genocide, I just recall some v2 mods and the whites-only stellaris mod getting removed for it.
I was referring to Thousand Week Reich. It's unpolished as hell and is written by neolibs.
Don't get me wrong, it has its qualities, but it feels like it was rushed out to release even now. The upcoming USSR content looks promising, at least.
