What they would’ve done is put in absolutely zero effort to take back the Senate

The wheels on a lot of Senate campaigns were already in motion, though, and they had been banging the "take back the Senate" drum for years. Maybe party leadership would have liked to pull this off, but they can't coordinate that with the Senate candidates themselves, the donors, or the voters. And of course there would have been everyone supporting Sanders also supporting these Senate races.

The Democratic Party will try to fuck us, but they only have so many tricks they can pull. They don't have perfect coordination and organization.

i’m not necessarily saying they’re trying to lose, but i don’t think they really have any principles or agendas that drive them to actually desire the levers of power

The way I describe it is that Democrats do want to win, but they only want to win if it's on their terms. This explains why they kneecapped the most popular politician in the country running on an incredibly popular policy, but also accounts for the fact that the careerist lanyard caste would prefer jobs in a Biden administration to having to scrounge up other work for the next four years.

It also explains -- especially that second part -- why Democrats can't just tank the Senate if a leftist candidate wins the presidential nomination. The wheels on many Senate campaigns are already in motion by that point, and all the people working on those campaigns (as centrist as they may be) want to win.
