I want to watch Hana bi, but i'm going to start with Outrage. The only thing directed by him that i've watched is Takeshi's Castle

Sonatine and Hana Bi are classics. Outrage is really good. I like Brother a lot, but the consensus seems to be it wasn't very good.
I'd say avoid starting with Hanabi and watch one of his earlier works first. Maybe Violent Cop?
