The lie is that nobody here actually thinks CTH is a source of serious information. Most people here don’t even listen to it anymore and the few that do just treat it like a topical humor podcast, which it is.

I would love to see the version of CTH living in the heads of about 20% of the posters here

Liberals think it’s just slurs and advocating for bernie.

ML thinks it’s slurs and advocating for invading China.

        It’s actually mostly just slurs.

What the hell are you talking about? They haven't mentioned The Noid in years!

The lie is that nobody here actually thinks CTH is a source of serious information.

I mean, I listen to The Dollop with regularity. They source their information from various historical texts that get cited in the show notes. I consider it a source of serious information.

When Matt does his deep dive historical rants, I assume he's referencing similar material and not just pulling shit out of his asshole. But when Felix makes some quip about being the country's only six star general or Will complaining about everyone he doesn't like working for the CIA, I take it with a bit of salt. I'll admit, the only truly uncompromisingly trustworthy Chapo was Amber, but she's off doing the Lib book circuit now.

I mean, I still listen to most of the episodes that come out, but also I don't really treat cth as a news or information source so much as commentary on news that I've already heard and gotten pissed off about because of shitty lib takes in mainstream media.

      I haven't missed a regular episode since I started listening. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

There's even better options for hearing the same hosts riffing (Time for my stories, twitch events, Cushvlogs, upcoming new Presidents pod, guests on other pods, etc.)

        Time for my stories

Big let down. It's almost all TV from the late 90s and 00s. Write what you know, I guess.

That said, if they finish that series and there's not a Roseanne episode, the entire thing will have been a joke.

Well they are talking about their identified "prestige TV phenomenon" which they posit is an artefact of the time that reflects the percieved societal decline of that time period, and not even all shows of that time period fit that bill.

That being said, some of the shows they covered I don't think fits the mold they've set, and I don't know how much of their analysis will hold up to scrutiny in the future. I think it's an interesting hypothesis and there's at least some surface-level value to the analysis; it seems to me they're broadly correct that TV is basically the only measurable culture being produced, and I do think it can be representative of broader societal themes of the time.

Ah okay, somehow I completely missed this; I thought it was going to be more of a general survey of popular American TV.

Does anyone still listen to cth?

Literally just worked my way through the FRQNCY release an hour ago and it was good.

Fondly remembering the "should people be having kids" discourse, and also any time Amber has said anything.

But...but... The sniffing noises in the background means they're not lying or misinterpreting anything! Everyone knows your nose starts running when you're speaking the truth!

I'll watch Cushvlogs on Youtube while working, but they're interesting specifically because Matt is clearly reading a lot and trying to figure out a future he can live with pursuing.
