I remember asking the /r/CTH mods if they needed a hand when the reddit admins, without warning, banned a bunch of mods who had been actively trying to clean up the sub. ReBr0 or someone else said "no". "Could have fooled me" I messaged back and I ended up a mod for less than a year. Modding CTH was not fun, I didn't want to remove most comments because I knew, no other subreddit was as closely watched or heavily restricted as us. I know that because places like c**ntown were allowed to harass /r/BlackLadies for as long as they could with zero repercussions, the_donald existed and actively planned fascist rallies, FatPeoepleHate was allowed to post n*zi flags in the front page for several days. Instead, I tried to make the subreddit a hub for learning, and themed discussions — I'm still really sad we lost the /r/CTH wiki. I tried, and got, the LitCritGuy to do an AMA during halloween. I tried to get Howie Hawkins to do an AMA (they bailed, but the controversy would have been chef's kiss), Dr Amy Cooper did an AMA about her book on Venezuelan Healthcare, and Sean from Antifada (as_a_worker(?)) came on to talk about all sorts of things. I loved posting megathreads. I remember posting the Bolivian Megathread, the same day the coup blew up, my phone was unusable.

I don't think anyone really understands how special chapotraphouse was. It started as a place to discuss a comedy/lefty podcast. It became the hub for lefties who cared less about cat girls' existence and their effect on socialist thought, and more about whether Bernie would really win, and how else we could bully le epic Redditors. I didn't ban a lot of users. The community was actively hostile to the site hosting it— hostile to the hosts of the podcast too! It was like the SRS haydays in Reddit. If you acted like a fash, you knew at least one chapo user who you'd fought with. ChapoTrapHouse provided a huge counter-point towards the "le reddit line".

Announcement posts would be full of "what about the_donald, but most importantly, what about CTH", "how come CTH isn't banned", "please do something about CTH". In the end, CTH being banned was a small price to pay for the_donald being gone, although of course, the_donald had been dead for a long while; the mods having moved themselves to .win.

This website is amazing. I know most users know this, but we have something legitimately amazing going on here. It's only a matter of time until Reddit shits the bed so hard with a redesign, or having to watch video ads before watching v.reddit posts, or selling all your data to fb. And we might become the defacto competitor. But what's truly the most important thing about this website, is that most people are here out of choice. We are not the big 3 (or 4) social media companies vying for market share. We just post, and you can vibe with us or don't.

I want to say thank you to all the users that have made this place what it is. I'd tag them all but I would be afraid of leaving anyone out.

    In Love and Solidarity, MH

This place has become such an important part of my life over the last year. Special shout out to @Wmill,@thelastaxolotl, @Grownbravy, @Rem, @RNAi, @QuillQuote, all the cats from the axe and sickle, and everyone else I'm forgetting right now. Extra special shout out to Hellraiser who I've never seen here but who was definitely instrumental to morale during the discord days.

It's been a pleasure posting with you all, for the vast majority of the time.

I just logged back in today for the first time in forever. Signed up day 1 (or day 2 depending on your timezone). I didn’t even know the domain changed. I wrote something about piracy here but I never finished it all; I might go ahead and publish an updated version this week if people are interested.

We're already at the temperatures where people are starting to die. No, we're not doing anything about it.

"We won't do anything until it's too late" is, in hindsight, way too optimistic a stance.

Having friends is bad opsec. You should only talk to strangers online.
