I'm absolutely not paying for more than one streaming service so I decided to find some streams/torrents instead to consume my slop. What VPNs do you recommend to do this anonymously? I don't mind paying a bit for a monthly fee.

I'm not sure what Shrek's issue with Nord is. I'm using it currently and as far as torrenting goes, it does the job. My bloodsucking monopoly broadband provider will shut down my connection for 24 hours and send threatening letters the second I torrent anything of cultural significance. Their one job is to be a condom between my bittorrent client and my ISP.

What is very important to understand though is that not every VPN service is the same. Take these big VPN providers like PrivateInternetAccess and NordVPN for example. They are large enterprises with operations in dozens of countries. While they claim they record no logs, they're in it for the money. They have a fiduciary responsibility to their investors, and that puts them at the mercy of whatever state they operate in. They are marketed mainly towards people who torrent or bypass region blocks. They work well if you're trying to shitpost on the corporate wifi or share some movies. Though I wouldn't trust them if I were making enemies with anyone bigger than Mickey Mouse. That's not their business model, and sticking their neck out that far would endanger them.

        Edit: lmao I scrolled down.

Mullvad is pretty undisputed as the best option IMO. Nigh-anonymous user accounts (arguably completely anonymous if you pay in crypto, barring NSA-types tracing your Bitcoin wallet or something), fast speeds, servers available just about everywhere including countries outside the western spyring agreements like Five Eyes, support for Wireguard and ovpn, and only 5 euros/month.

Mullvad (?) unless something happened, 5eu though.

Plus sides: 5 devices, apps on ios/android/linux/windows, payment in whichever way suits you, ooh and dns ad blocker, which kinda moderately works

Fucking TIL mullvad finally came out with their app! I've been using them for ages and they're super reliable, but you always had to use a third party app for mobile devices.

I use mullvad - no complaints. Accepts Bitcoin for payment which can help with anonymity. I also like that they support wireguard.

Is PIA good? Cause I've been using that for years. Granted, I don't do anything more illegal than torrent tons of movies, but we've not gotten any letters from our ISP since I started using it so I'm happy

It's what I use. I don't think they log anything and it's fairly cheap. Haven't gotten any copyright notices torrenting things in years.

i dont think i trust VPNs that have a huge marketing budget, like nordvpn

i have used private internet access and airvpn, both are good, but everyone here is saying mullvad so i might switch to that

Depends what your threat model is

As long as you use it to bypass region blocking and don't think about anonymity, something like Surfshark is fine too imo. Mullvad and ProtonVPN are likely the most solid

I bought a 3 year plan with nord. But I see others recommend something else besides it.

I don't know what your use case is but in general this seems like a bad idea to me, I can hardly think of any reason this would be better than a vpn

All your traffic is still tied to a single endpoint, except now (not sure about this) your traffic would be the only thing that is coming from that endpoint, making it easier for an adversary to profile you or for feds to assert in a court that this traffic came from you. You are still paying for a third party service so the same concerns about this party knowing your identity exist as with a vpn (through payment details, ip address, email address used to sign up). There is no guarantee that a vps provider doesn't monitor internet traffic as well.

If you are just using it to torrent none of this probably matters but a vpn is more convenient. (I didn't watch the whole video and I'm not an expert so take it how you want)
