I think because the democrats were out of power, they (and corporations) put enough pressure on trump that he (who always wanted to be popular) tried to help, was still trashed in the media, and then became indifferent to it, then after he lost tried to get more stimmy because he wanted people to like him and sign his names on the checks.

The real story is that McConnell and corporate interests understood that without aid, their stocks would go down, and oversaw a massive wealth transfer while giving people enough aid to be placated.

Democrats just don’t care and are neoliberals. Republicans will strong arm the free market to help their donors where democrats corporate donors tend to benefit from an untouched market
