:yea:

that's 48 cargo ships and 6 oil tankers waiting to dock in Los Angeles ports, basically the equivalent of circling the runway. "Normal" number of ships doing this: maybe 1

The grocery stores here in liberal mountain have been out of a bunch of different foodstuffs for the last couple of weeks. Cool Zone grimly approaches.

I rely on grocery delivery for no car, no transit system reasons and it's wild how often I'll place an order and they'll be like "rice? Yea no. Beans? Uhhhh I got a $12 can of organic Lima beans, does that work?" or just not communicate anything and 3/4 of the order just doesn't arrive so I have to call and ask, and they're just like, "yeah, we're out." Out of everything?

The fact that grocery stores are experiencing shortages of staple foods and goods is a very bad sign. It's also something absolutely no one is taking about.

I can't imagine they use a lot just chilling there if they're not running the propeller to move

      refrigerated shipping excepted

I'm not sure they're far enough from shore to burn bunker fuel. That's an international waters sort of situation.

Covid lockdowns and domestic production of goods being priority in some countries.

Shipping is fickle. A single cyclone can back everything up for months in normal times.

We are unfortunately not in normal times.

What's the hold up? Is this just a logistics fuckaroo or is the LA Port unable to operate at capacity for some reason?

I love MarineTraffic! I use it more for the great lakes though. I should check out huge ports.

I feel like there's always been a line of ships waiting to dock at the LA/LB port at least once a year
