    Unfortunately pretty common for that era, presumably inspired by american and european depictions of black people in comic books.

    That doesn't make it acceptable in any way though, as if you actually put any effort into it, you could get well designed black characters without racist depictions, like for example one of the main characters of 1987's Metal Armor Dragonar

    Also caricaturizations of native americans was weirdly common in 90s anime

    Unless whatever version you're watching cut those scenes or they didn't get adapted for the anime

    Yup there's a reason I don't watch much old anime I enjoyed growing up. I'll keep the nice hazy memory, cause it's gonna be much different watching it now
