R5-D4 , know to his friend's as Skippy, was a force sensitive astromech droid on Tatooine in the year 0 BBY.

Upon receiving a premonition of what would happen if Luke Skywalker and his uncle purchased him instead of R2-D2 he nobly chose to destroy his own motivator.

Let his sacrifice never be forgotten.

I think you're assuming far too much realpolitik to the lib ideology. Their ideology is nothing more than

"they are good, they read all the things that they're supposed to and say all the things they're supposed to, and it feels good to be good. Anyone who doesn't do this is ontologically evil at worst, and an unthinking child at best"

There's nothing more, there's no connection to material reality and national/individual self interest ideology like the cold-war era conservatives.

It's just a cargo cult performing the correct rituals which can never be changed, even if it means their loss and death.

I'd agree that it operates subconsciously for most of them (those simply cudgeled into assimilation, especially). But, I know some in real life who actively live and breathe the ideology, too.

The difference is usually whether they are confused by the behavior/thoughts of a Marxist or outright angered by them.

Yeah, there's a few MoralIntern types. But even they have a very different view of the world to Conservative liberals. One seeks Ideological and superstructure control, the other control of the base social and material relations.

yeah, honestly I find the former more disturbing; something about them realizing that the liberal mythos has to be whipped into everyone in order to perpetuate it is just creepy.

and of course, as always, they accuse their ideological opponents of what they themselves actually do.
