I'm not going to link it, because its worthless, but I take back anything nice Ive ever said about these unsufferable, useless dweebs. Join the PSL, holy shit, the DSA national org is complete dogshit.
This guy is talking about working with capitalists against the fossil fuel industry because fossil fuels are bad for other capitalists and he's quoting MLK to justify it. Holy shit, Kevin A. Young you are an absolute turd of a liberal. Why am I still watching this? Make me stop!
National is generally shitty because only the locals do anything meaningful and so regular people put their time there. Ever since M4A kinda fell apart the only thing National does is put out statements, administrative work, and lobby for the Green New Deal.
It most definitely is. They have a bookstore in Harlem and show up at protests in the NYC area
Aren't they also monitoring members social media so they can censor them if they post cringe?
Well that makes sense. They are demcentralist and members, at least more important ones cant be saying whatever political position wise in public forums. Especially if they have PSL in bio or smth
Sorry i'm too much of a trot/anarchist to think it's good if it's the party as an entity forming the party line and not the members
We call them missing steps/stairs in the BDSM community. It happens in smaller groups/organizations without a dedicated organ to "fix stairs" because taking time and energy away from actually dealing with the missing stair detracts away from the mission and it's more efficient to step over them. It's a huge problem.
like the allegations and stuff are an issue but like... that article just takes a hard right turn into china bad territory at the end lmfao
like what is that about
yeah it took me a while to read through all the sources so it took me a while to comment on it. PSL Philly seems like it has some pretty consistent issues as thats where almost all the problems come from it seems
edit
And of course Gloria having a boomer moment but that isn't indicative that everything sucks
Ruthless pragmatism is pointless, I guess. Let's just throw the largest left org in recent memory to the wolves.
This is especially funny considering the video to which I'm referring had a speaker who explicitly mentuoned how disappointing the pragmatism of the Obama years was to progressives. And then the flowing speakers went on to give examples of how the DSA needed a pragmatic approach to build socialism.
Pointing out that this whole shitshow in Ukraine is clearly the result of American/NATO dirty tricks going tits up is not giving "critical support" to Russia.
Maybe we expect more from a socialist org than a capitalist nation-state.
They aren't doing much of anything these days. M4A is dead, and this pivot to reformism seems to me like it's been fully captured by progressive dems. I see nothing socialist about the current direction of the org. To me that's a material difference, not an ideological one, but ive wasted enough effort already and don't feel the need to continue this any firther. I'm sorry I hurt your feelings. If you feel like the DSA is a valuable use of your time then anything that I say shouldn't dissuade you from continuing your efforts. For me, that video was the end of any interest I had in the organization.
Are you a member of the PSL or just one of those people who says join the PSL?
I am, I'm also former DSA. There's a ton of overlap where I live and the orgs work together because DSA local here is very good and quite large. The video I'm referring to was put out by the national PEC and it's absolute dogshit. I can link it if you really want to watch it, I'm not being hyperbolic when I say this dude suggested partnership with capitalists hostile to fossil fuel interests on environmental issues.
Not at least, like, the cool non-reform reforms that Fisher et. al. advocate?
It was basically M4A and lobby banks to be mean to fossil fuel companies.
Non-reformist reforms are good though, like, the 4 hour day, decarceration, defunding the police, these all move us towards our goals and give us concrete goals to mobilize around during non-revolutionary periods.
