It's dumb, but that is 100% the democratic vibe. The republican vibe is tough (or mean) while the Dems vibe is nice (or weak).

Most of US "politics" is reducible to this dichotomy

Did you ever really think carefully about the masterful dialectical logic that weaved the denominations of “the don’t be a pussy party” and “the don’t be an asshole party”? It is not a banal question of pussies vs. assholes; it is non-pussies vs non-assholes; the negation conveys something more than the simple inversion. What constitutes a pussy is entirely determined by the non-pussies, and conversely for the assholes. It is also interesting that the opposition is not pussy vs. dick, but pussy vs. asshole; the categories defy binary gender logic. Would “dick” be as appropriate for describing this antagonism? I am not convinced it would. For one, the asshole is capable of farting, the quintessential troll gesture. A dick can be used for similar purposes, but drawing attention to this would be much more disturbing. Trolling is meant to be disturbing, but not that disturbing. A dick would denote a much more dedicated and convinced orientation to politics that I don’t think the non-pussies possess, they are exactly that: non-, knee-jerk opposition to the pussy. They don’t even embrace their assholeness, how could they embrace dickiness? Furthermore, it was not the assholes that coined the term non-asshole, it was the non-assholes, who, for their own safety’s sake, might want to downplay any direct genital associations. As events develop, it would be interesting to see further research on where the rising category of “bussy” fits into and/or disrupts this entrenched dialectic.

One is a monster that rips you apart with its claws and the other is a monster that rips you apart with its teeth.
