      Hot take: it doesn't.

This is a rose colored glasses / getting old moment for hex bears. Most of the toys for buzz in the 90s were also super shitty and low quality junk. Some of them were good but there have always been tiers of quality in toys. Look at various versions of optimus prime.

I'm sure there will be a super high quality line of figures for this movie as well. Biggest difference is inflation is a bitch.

Level 1: Symbols accurately describe reality.

Level 2: Symbols inaccurately describe reality.

Level 3: Symbols claim to describe reality.

Level 4: Symbols no longer claim to describe reality.

So they completely changed the way the character looks, because I guess Jay Leno is bribing them or something

But then the toy doesn't even look like the dumb new character remake they did, it looks like someone MSpainted this onto a character figure and then drew on it with sharpie

Right? I thought the same thing. I still don't think it would be 'good' but this movie feels more like a reaction/dissection to a hypothetical unironically earnest Buzz Light year movie where its just pure space opera and he's the uncomplicated hero, space ace style.

I don't really care that the movie contradicts lore from toy story 1 and/or really think that is the biggest sin of the movie...but yeah...this isn't the movie Andy watched and you'll never convince me it was.

I remember watching the cartoon as a kid. Is this another gritty reboot or does it still have a light-hearted feel to it?

That looks terrible. The OG Buzz Lightyear toy was really cool with lots of articulation and moving bits.

Once you pile enough self reference on top of itself, it just collapses into a singularity and that’s how symbols are born (maybe I haven’t actually thought hard about so please don’t kill me, philosophy chapos)
