Is it actually worth watching or what?
I think it's the best of the recent trek things. It's still not amazing but every episode isn't world ending disasters being averted by starry eyed heroes, so in that way it feels refreshing and very much like old TNG.
I mean, it's technically a prequel but other than Spock and the fact that's it's the Enterprise I don't really feel like the prequel element is relevant at all.
Or is it simply an appeal to nostalgia?
It's all about milking the nostalgia, I imagine it's hard to get original ideas green lit with capitalist innovation at work when all you gotta do is throw in some legacy characters and people will watch it. Lower Decks is easily my favorite out of the current offerings even though it's mainly pandering to fans of the 90s shows but I haven't watched Strange New Worlds yet.

I watched all of Picard but aside from the Hugh borg torture porn I can barely recall any story elements. Picard gets put in an android body and the android girl is part of some android race that's revealed at the very end of the season is basically it.
Ah, but you see, they needed the Federation to be "bad place" so they rolled back all that because Android slaves went angry and now androids banned but it's because of a discovery of the "not-the-mass-effect-antagonists."
Because they've basically used Discovery to say the next few hundred years is the decline of the Federation and Picard doubled this down into the short term and now they're fucked.
The liberals prefer perpetual crises that threaten the universe where only the exceptional chosen one(s) can fix it again and again.
Even if it's just silly I can ignore some glaring writing issues or characters not acting like proper Starfleet officers tbh.
The problems with the other shows is that they're self-serious and complete nonsense at the same time.
I thought I was a Star Trek fan, but I eventually realized that I was just a DS9 fan.
It's honestly been great so far, really loving it. So much better than Discovery and Picard. Only criticism I can think of is Rebecca Romijn can't act IMO but she's just one in a large ensamble. Not like Trek has some long history of only having top notch actors in the main cast anyway.
I’ve been liking it a lot too. Although I will say that the fact that it’s a prequel AND a sequel really limits any character building to be done in the show. Also pretty much removes any tension from action scenes with Spock, Uhura, et al
Kinda sad it didn't come out before Discovery Season 2 and Picard so we might've gotten Mike and Rich's opinion on it
Skip this shit and just stick to the Orville, so much better than even the best nu-Trek (the current season is particularly good for those who are annoyed at MacFarlane's humor- very toned-down with the jump to Hulu).
ds9 and tng are far better. first two episodes caught the vibes but everything past it sucked so bad and me and the bf were bored :shrug-outta-hecks: also, insertion of extreme liberalism is now endemic to star trek
