I think we also sometimes forget the Left KMT is at least nominally part of the Chinese Government. They're no fans of the ROC dictatorship that was fighting in this movie, but the CPC is if anything more of a direct heir to Sun Yat Sen than Taiwan and the heraldry isn't considered inherently evil.
