The third Reich was also like lightning in a bottle for a recently humiliated Germany after WW1. The US hasn't faced an invasion like that since the 1800's and nor has it been on the receiving end of unfair treaties. It's usually the one starting them. Its standard of living is still good compared to the developing world.
