Anno is right to despise the fandom, and I can't imagine a better way to get back at them than to just allow the rampant commercialization and trivialization of the thing they hold most dear.
They're hopelessly creepy weebs and a lot of them have blood curdling fantasies about what they want to do to the victimized child soldiers in their grossly misunderstood cartoons. Anno got that bag, kept getting that bag, and there's so many worse ways to get that bag than to just walk away with contempt and let the morons read the tea leaves of that contempt forever, forever missing the point. :pathetic:
