The "Bleeps" section is probably one of the biggest fucking circlejerks Ive ever seen. There are some really fucking good recs in there, dont get me wrong, but most of those artists aren't super accessible to new listeners and tend to attract elitist crowds who like to talk about how advanced their taste is.
It also omits a shitload of what I would consider "essential" electronic music.
Though people may not like it, genere's like dubstep, drum and bass, futurebass, and just bass music in general make up the core of modern electronic music.
Like him or not, Skrillex is one of the most important artists in modern music because of what he did for music. At least one of his albums should be on there.
You want to get more artful about it? Fine. Get some KOAN Sound on there instead. Polychrome was a masterpiece, and its ten times more accessible than any squarepusher album. I would say its way more "essential".
Fuck, Ganja White Night's Hybrid Distillery could even work. It has a really unique and artful feel while embodying the soul of mid 2010's dubstep.
Also, are they not even going to mention Noisia? Theyre incredible and have had a massive impact on the music world as a whole. Not only do they kill drum and bass, but many other EDM genres as well. Their house is some of the best I know.
Speaking of house, no Deadmau5 or Wolfgang Gartner either? These guys pioneered electro house, and in Wolfgang's case complextro as well. I know deadmau5 is super basic, but he's basic for a reason. 4 × 4 = 12 should be on this list.
Straight up omited futurebass as well. Flume's self titled album is not only killer, but it spawned one of the most successful mainstreme genres that the last decade has seen. You want an essential album? Thats an essential album.
I get that EDM has a lot of subgenres and is very subjective, but thats WHY these albums should be included. They dont have any straight up bangers on that list; most of those are niche, spacey artists who are really good and extremely talented, but not at all representative of what electronic music is. I love a lot of the artists on this list, but to call the lineup here "essential" is to misrepresent electronic music.
Whoever made this list doesn't enjoy electronic music, they enjoy jerking themself off while thinking about their "superior" music taste.
You described my initial gripes over this section better than I ever could.
I also can't believe I found another GWN fan here. I'm still in the mindset of them being that group that played on a sidestage in the middle of the day even though they headline things now.

Haha, thank you!
GWN is one of my biggest inspirations to be honest. I hope to one day produce like him.
