When the site strips the metadata from images, it apparently also strips the orientation metadata, so you end up with the raw image as encoded in binary. That's why it's sideways.

That's interesting! I glad the site strips the metadata, that's worth the rotation issues imo

I think it defaults to landscape orientation, so you’d have to crop it to be wider than it is tall (that worked for me at least).

Fool! Now I can infer in which hemisphere you live, maybe given you saw it IRL recently and took a picture of it.

No prob, I'll save you the trouble. It's from the place that I live; Liberal, Mountain Idaho. In all seriousness I saw it today in a park yeah

Yes! I have some small seedlings that I've been growing for about a year or so that are just turning yellow. Only living tree species in its' entire order now :'(

Yes! They're such awesome trees and I think this is the biggest one in my area, which is Liberal Mountain Idaho

I have a huge ginkgo in my yard. Male tree luckily, so no smelly seeds. It just dropped literally all of its leaves in one day, so I spent a whole afternoon mulching them with a lawnmower and bagging up the pulp.

Omg the seeds.... They have a bunch growing along a street I walk down every so often and smelling the crushed seeds isn't always wonderful. The way they pop when you step on them is kinda fun tho

Is it feasible to keep the rotation info while stripping the rest of the metadata, or would that require buffering other metadata that could be a security risk?

If extracting the rotation info isn't feasible, perhaps users could be given an opinion to rotate photos in the post editor before posting
