So, just read about something interesting, thought I'd write a little thread about it...Do you guys happen to remember when the CDC shut down Fort Detrick in August 2019? Funny thing about that...https://t.co/pCyMnGdhl8 pic.twitter.com/Bp7B6Nq2T7— a lucid lunatic (@aLucidLunatic) April 1, 2020
But seriously now that we've learned that COVID may have originated outside China this thread keeps coming back to me.
Technically yes, but they'd have to pull an existing virus that could already infect humans from Chinese bats, or infect the bats with something similar to cover their tracks. There's more evidence supporting a local animal > human jump then a released virus, and I doubt the US is fully competent enough to release a bioweapon that seems like a natural occurance to everyone
Lol. Fed accusation because I've actually bothered to explore this and understand that there's basically nothing to suggest covid is a bioweapon, and because I acknowledge it's damn near impossible to create a bioweapon and make it look like a completely natural occurance with a natural spread
Oh I'm not taking this particular thread as truth, I just love a good conspiracy theory (especially if it isn't rooted in some crypto-fascist bullshit).
The genome has been sequenced by multiple labs around the world and no one has found evidence of inserted/manipulated DNA. And while they haven't nailed down all the details there's a good amount of science backing the bat > human theory for covid. That's enough for me tbh, bioweapons can be spotted easier than you think
Also if this was a US bioweapon you'd think China would have brought that up by now, no?
Hello, yes I am someone with Lyme disease; boy howdy I don't understand how you could make such baseless accusations against the unblemished honor of the U.S. government
We don't know, but at the same time, raising a bunch of bats and exposing them to coronaviruses until they produce something that can be used as a bioweapon/cause a pandemic would take a good amount of time/luck
Something I dove into (and couldn't find much on) is the possibility that you could identify that these methods were used when genome sequencing. Seems like it would be incredibly difficult but is it impossible to spot?
Also these seems more geared for adding on to an existing pathogen, yeah? Like covid-19 couldn't be made "from the ground up", there'd be some backbone they'd add to?
I swear remember reading a peer-reviewed study months ago about the unlikeliness of directed evolution for covid but I can't find it now. I'm not trying to assert that creating something in a lab is impossible, rather that the hurdles you'd have to clear to do it and make basically everyone think it's natural leads to an Occam's razor situation (for me at least)
I meant more from Chinese labs or from government entities accusing the US of it. They've been researching it for a year and as the target of blame I'd assume they'd publish evidence of either manipulation or US people deliberately spreading it or both
It's a fun conspiracy but covid-19 wasn't made in a lab
well that settles that!

Knowledge is fed shit. The more knowledgeable the more fed you are #ReturnMonkee
That band from the 1960s was way ahead of us

I understand, I was answering their question
When they say "bat-and-prisoner room" they're not talking about that kind of bat.
Abu Ghraib style.
edit: Ah you beat me to it.
