3D movies, I remember everyone being so excited for shit like Avatar because it was a 3D movie without the dumb red and blue lenses. Then it turned out to just give you vertigo.

Or even 4K TV. Like it looks marginally better if your face is jammed into the screen, but all it really does is suck up way more bandwidth and cost $400 more.

V*ush posting is worse. Bernie's still a middling succdem, but at least his campaigns got a lot of people into socialism.

Its not because bernie is bad, its because any reminder of his campaign makes me depressed.

Yeah, that was rough. I was canvassing for him, and up until COVID hit there was a lot of hope. I suppose the DNC would've screwed us one way or another, though.

Latter for me, because at least Bernie is somewhat meaningful to me, at least as a waystation in the development of my political beliefs. The latter's just a tedious sex pest who will most likely only ever have minor online influence.

Also protip, to make sure asterisks appear as asterisks when you want the character, write them as "\*".

Spore. I remember watching the videos about procedural generation and Will Wright talking about how you could do all this crazy stuff in the game.

Then it came out and I played it and it was just empty. A fun character creator, and almost zero depth to the gameplay.

Pretty sure that was the last videogame I ever bought 🏴‍☠️

It was, but they also released it a sort of standalone demo before the game came out. So when you got the actual game you were expecting so much more.

I wish they canned all the space/civilization stuff. If they could have just gone deeper on the first two stages it would have been so much better.

There was a Half Life 2 mod called The Hidden or something like that years ago. Everyone on one team as submachine-gun toting mercenaries against The Hidden, an invisible player with a knife that had super human jumping. Whoever killed The Hidden became the next Hidden. It was an absolute blast. Lots of great scares to be had. It says something that a team of amateurs on the internet can create an Everyone Vs The Monster game for free and when Capitalism tries the same it fucks it all up.

We did the same thing in Halo 3 custom games by making the Juggernaut or Oddball traits super speed and invisibility. Fun times

I was so fucking excited for Evolve, because it was supposed to be made by the people who made L4D. And then it was, uh, what it was.

I went to a store at 4am and waited out there until it opened for a Wii.

So I know of one fascist pagan hippie rave boss in my general area but for the most part its just a bunch of freaks wanting to let loose and people whose entire lives revolve around how much they care about sustaining underground music. I miss raves more than I miss anything else about "normal" life

I'm sorry the scene you were in ended up being dangerous and shitty so much so that it turned you off to the whole thing. I've been intricately involved in mine for a long time and know the promoters really well and I can say with a lot of confidence that sort of stuff is not tolerated in ours but I'm sure that's not true of every scene even still.

KONY 2012? in hind sight that was a pretty embarrassing moment for me, because i put in a decent amount of energy (thankfully no money though). I was in my baby activist stage and fine with latching onto what was hip.

oh also around that time, stanning Aung San Suu Kyi as a #girlboss because the myanmar govt had put her on house arrest. now i wish she would have stayed there. even at the time we knew about what was happening with the rohingya, so it wasn't necessarily just her, but still...

Ah, KONY 2012, one of the classic grifts. Would've been hilarious if he actually beat Obama and Romney though

I realize it was a slightly different time when everyone was just a little less overstimulated and deadened to constant emotional manipulation, but it's still incredible how effect a marketing campaign that was. Like it felt like everyone I knew started talking about it overnight.

cubeworld. what a clusterfuck of a game lol. the dev released the alpha. every year or so he'd drop a picture on twitter of what the next update will contain. 6 years later, he releases the finished game that removed many features from the alpha and had maybe 1/5 of the stuff he showed on twitter.

Escape from Tarkov, Melee : Battlegrounds, Mount and Blade : Bannerlord, Bernie Sander's campain, Jean-Luc Mélenchon's campaign.

    In no particular order, too.
