It's very easy to understand this person's world view. They think the value that can be extracted from your labor is your value as a human being. In their mind, they see it as "it just feels right that only niche or specialized labor should receive a living wage, because ANYONE could flip burgers or put ice cream in a cone, and if ANYONE could receive a living wage doing general labor, that would be bad.
