I just learned about this today and was struck by some similarities, wondering what y'all think.
To be a dumbass about it, what we witnessed was essentially that event but with a distinctly American character rather than German. No planning or vision; everyone fucked around and pretended to know what they were doing until they got their rocks off, then they went home.

The key difference is that Hitler wasn't there yesterday. AFAIK anyone in a real leadership position either condemned the event or just didn't do anything yesterday. Hitler was already in a leadership position and was actively working with the group to accomplish something. Trump sat inside and didn't direct or participate. If Trump showed up and stormed the Capitol with them, then we'd have something more comparable. That doesn't mean there aren't future Hitlers in that crowd. It's just that in order for them to actually a real fascism, there has to be some kind or organized structure and there clearly isn't. The leaders are too worried about PR to lead a revolution. The would-be leaders haven't stepped up yet. And the people actually doing stuff have no direction.
Second there was no meaningful confrontation with the police. In fact the police were a reason why it got as bad as it did. If there had been a meaningful police presence they wouldn't have gotten into the Capitol and therefore not victorious. I mean they weren't victorious anyways because they didn't use their time in the building to do anything. But they still view it as some sort of victory just breaking into the space. Hitler and his people actually fought with the state. So far the MAGAs haven't had to do that for real. They keep getting handled with kid gloves. If the cops beat the fuck out of them like they do BLM and the Chuds still show up, then we're closer to a fascist uprising.
