here is the post in the TLA subreddit
ok so the Showrunners of the original distanced themselfs from the live TV show last year and the rumor as to why is because Netflix wanted to do Zutara and sex the show up a bit.
You cannot tell me that Attack of the Clones was aimed at kids. No kid gives a shit about pretty people flirting in a field, forbidden love, or political maneuvering.
That excuse for keeping them as younger teens/tweens doesn't fly when Korra's main cast were predominantly in their late teens/early twenties and then unambiguously in their early twenties after the season 4 time skip.
What a weird decision. I don't get it at all.
Netflix wanted to do Zutara and sex the show up a bit.
Okay, I can see doing Zutara to differentiate it from the old series, but "sexing it up" would be gross. Why not age up Aang then?
Or make it easier & just tell a different story like Kyoshi's. Or even just the post war days, when they're trying to establish the new non-bending-nation cities. It would fit in great with what people are already watching, because you could set it up as a new style western kinda like The Mandolorian. Plus the characters wouldn't all be children if the goal is to "sex-up" the series.
I agree with this. Original stories set in the same universe with the same rules, something like The Mandalorian, would be better than writing what's almost certainly going to be a worse version of a story that everyone loved the first time. Shyamalan tried doing this already and it didn't fucking work.
they are probably gonna use Aang being 12 and katara 16 to push Zutara more
I never liked Zutara, because it seemed to me like Katara was a family-oriented country girl and would HATE being the wife of a Fire Lord.
The creators had no intention of it. All the shit for it was from nick
The head writer did actually prefer Zutara, Aaron Ehasz, if they were to have gotten a fourth season
I never heard that before that’s so dumb! Why would you prefer that FFS
FUCKING ZUTARIANS RUINNING EVERYTHING SINCE 2006 OR WHATEVER YEAR ATLA WAS AIRED.
i think this TV series has the potential to be worst than the movie
Too late :p ScreamoBMO has already approved of it lol
(It's more because it's a fantastic template for mocking libs, change the characters around and you have the makings of a beautiful copypasta)
you are right about Zuko and Mai, in the comics they arent a good couple, i think the democratization of the Fire nation could have been a cool thing even if it was like todays japan with an Emperor and a PM
or like, Aang becomes a monk and takes
the volcel pledgea vow of celibacies.
This is going to turn into the Sabrina show they made, with the kind of random awkward "sex scenes" thrown in that feel completely unnecessary and weird because they are all highschool kids... Isn't it?
The showrunners should be forced to distance themselves from Avatar after Korra. Bring Aaron Ehasz back, he was the head writer on the original.
The stupid lore novel ruined it for me. It had lib but tolerable vibes before but after the book it recontextualized it for me to be even more lib than Korra.
Highly disappointed. The last air bender didn't do the insufferable both-sideism "humans bad" crap when there's clearly none but this story does.
They should definitely distance themselves from this. This will probably be even worse than the worst parts of Legend of Korra.
zutara

MAKE IT STOP :agony-immense:

Some fans of the show "shipped" the character of Katara with another character called Zuko, but in the end she ends up with the show protagonist Aang. There's always been a rift in the fandom between people who supported this decision and people who thought it made more sense for Zuko to end up with Katara. Personally I think either answer works, Zuko and Katara do have a chemistry, and despite the final decision of the writers they do also find a lot of excuses for the two of them to end up going on missions alone together, plus the two are more emotionally mature than Aang who's a bit younger both in age in behavior. But also the writers created another love interest for Zuko who I feel has equal chemistry and while Aang is a bit immature by the end of the show he's come into his own a lot more and this is when he confesses his feeling for Katara.
On top of all this though is the fact a lot of people who were into the Zuko-Katara pairing also pumped out a lot of NSFW material about it. Aang is younger in both appearance and behavior so he didn't really get that treatment as much because I guess people would have gotten pedo vibes from it, and while Katara and Zuko are both still underage they look and act more mature so I guess people felt they could get away with that. The red flags are probably coming from fans who see the writers of this show aging up Katara a bit as a means for them to inject for risque material into the franchise, which leaves a lot of fans feeling... weird. The show proper implied some of the characters may be sexually active (Sokka and Suki for one) but because the main cast is almost entirely underage this was kept on the DL, a lot of people are uncomfortable with it being more overt.
If they really wanted to be bold they would do Azuko instead.
I dunno Sokka and Suki are pretty cute together, wouldn’t wanna ruin that
While I appreciate the gay polycue,
it just doesn't have the same allure as the forbidden love between two siblings who find love after their abusive upbringing.
