None of these are programming related. I think quite a few people know about the last two, but Dirtbag Diaries probably less so. If you enjoy the outdoors, hiking, climbing, biking, whatever, it's worth checking out.
I spent just over two months at a new job unable to do anything because everyone was too busy to give me the required training session. Hated it. Can't imagine sitting around like that for a year.
Performance management systems have always been rigged. Certainly at the last company that both my wife and I worked for. She had to manage a small staff, and come review time, she rated one deserving employee with a 4 out of 5 overall. HR called her in and said, "You can't give anyone a four, we don't do that here." They changed the scores and the employee got a 3 like everyone else. Complete bullshit.
I set on Lemmy.zip during the blackout protest on Reddit, and haven't gone back to it. Don't miss it. Lemmy has grown a lot in the past few months. It's only a fraction of the Reddit userbase size, but steadily filling out and getting better.
West Wing. When it came out years ago, (24 actually...) I saw a couple episodes and it didn't interest me. But about 8 years ago I ended up watching every episode on Netflix and loved it. But wow, if I had to slog through to season 4 of a show to enjoy it, I would never get there.
Heh, not surprising. With new editions come new rules. I just hope that somewhere along the way the combat resolution got simplified. I remember us having to roll handfulls of d6's, and it taking way too long to figure out success or failures.
There's a 5th edition to Shadowrun now? I'm going to have to look this up. Still have my first edition stuff on the shelf that I got back in high school. Hope you can find some good players and have fun. We always had a great time with Shadowrun, and you can incorporate future versions of the city you live in into the game.
Been a lot of work for you getting this set up, thanks for the effort. Hopefully this venture works out well long term. Do you work in tech/IT, or just doing this as a fun project? And yeah, if everything survives the growing pains and is running in a year, there will probably be some people willing to chip in and help cover costs. You shouldn't have to foot the whole bill.
