Ubisoft has done a fantastic job of convincing me to never buy a Ubisoft game ever again.

Not sure that's how a company is supposed to work, but they sure seem to think so.

No mention in the article or on the Steam store page of whether it's meant to be compatible with the Steam Deck or not.

This game has been on my wishlist since I spotted it on Steam a while back, but I'm not likely to buy it unless I can play it on the Deck. I've got too many other games in my backlog already that don't run on it, but I need more casual games I can play on my Deck while watching TV.

A former coworker would constantly pitch Ansible whenever a discussion about an ops problem came up, in a kind of joking-but-not-joking way. It eventually got rather annoying to keep having to shoot it down.

I spent thirty minutes reading the website trying to figure out what the hell Ansible actually was and what you could do with it, and I still didn't have a straight answer.

As far as I can tell, it seemed like it was created as a tool to automatically SSH into servers and run commands, but through one of the most egregious examples of scope creep in software engineering history, it was eventually extended with modules that could do everything from provision cloud resources to, idfk, control smart home appliances or whatever. It's like the poster child of "if all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail."

By comparison, the value proposition for Terraform is immediately obvious. It certainly has its own drawbacks, but I could instantly understand exactly what it was and what I could do with it.

I hate dev tools that try to do everything at once, because most often they don't do a single thing very well at all.

The Steam store page says the game only takes about an hour, but it doesn't say anything about replayability.

I love Powerwash Simulator so much because it has enough levels to play all them through multiple times without getting too tired of them. It's a game I can play absentmindedly while watching a show.

It is starting to get old though, so I've been trying to find games that scratch the same itch.

PlateUp, it's surprisingly addicting. Very similar core loop to Unrailed but more much more open-ended.

Runs well on the Steam Deck but really chugs battery for what it is, even on low settings.

Plays better with a controller; the keyboard controls are kind of weird.

I'm not a networking expert by any means but this seems like a pretty strong hint that it's a routing issue.

Check the routing tables on the host? I'd bet that the internet is only reachable on the LAN interface (again, not an expert but one of them has to take priority, right?). I'm guessing that disconnecting the LAN interface changes the routing to go through the WLAN interface instead.

My friends and I still use TS3. The audio quality and voice activation is better than Discord's, and the desktop app doesn't take ten fucking gigabytes of RAM to run.

I have a theory hypothesis notion that the concept of hallucination in artificial neural networks is not a failure mode that is unique to ANNs but is an inherent property of any neural network, artificial or biological.

Essentially, I posit that a neural network by itself is incapable of maintaining coherence without a rigid external framework, such as consistent feedback in training an ANN, or the laws of physics for biologicals.

This would explain why people start tripping balls in sensory deprivation chambers. And it provides a counterargument to any thought experiment or philosophy that involves a disembodied brain vividly hallucinating reality.

What always blows my mind to think about is how the materials for our advanced technology were here the whole time. We could have had computers and nuclear energy and spacecraft 20,000 years ago if we'd just had the knowledge.

This is an inherent, likely unfixable issue with LLMs because they simply don't know right from wrong, or truth from fiction. All they do is output words that are likely to go together.

It's literally just the Predictive Text game, or the "type <some prompt> and let your keyboard finish the sentence" meme. It's not the same algorithms (autocorrect is much less sophisticated) but they're surprisingly similar in how they actually function.

You can try to control what an LLM outputs by changing the prompt or adjust the model with negative feedback for certain combinations of words or phrases, but you can't just tell it "don't make up lies about people" and expect that to work.

IMO, I'd count plutonium in the anal probe category. Enriched or not, it's gonna raise tons of red flags.
