I'm a customer and have moved over multiple family members, everyone seems happy. Their face recognition and smart search are still WIP, but they are impressively present, despite being all E2EE, by leveraging local processing. They are making very good progress.

It's unfortunate the grapheneos community has a bad reputation, but I think the fact that Daniel stepped down and that the project is very committed and ticking all my personal boxes (and more) really keeps me devoted. I wish there were more options of phones, but I have no issue personally with it requiring google pixels as they have convinced me with what seems like rational and well supported arguments. I do wonder if as someone else mentioned, it may be interesting to have a GOS-light for other phones, just to give them a chance to get into GOS and try it out before getting a dedicated phone. It feels like a high barrier to entry, and a limited version may still be better than anything else available to those people? Just a thought.

I see. In that case a 1920x1200 display with an adjusted frame might be enough? The top and bottom would just need to be slightly thicker to bridge the gap of the missing 80 vertical pixels? Just a thought, not important at all :)

Is that a resolution which is proposed elsewhere? Sounds very unique to me. Or did you mean 1920x1200?

I have had my SD for a few months now and I have only one bug which seems to be recurring: When I resume a game from sleep, occasionally (rarely), the game runs fine but the audio is sped up. It's a bit weird. It usually solves itself while gaming in the following minutes but it's unclear to me what causes it and what solves it. It happens in GTA IV, GTA V and the Witcher 3, but it's hard to say if it's only on these games or if it's on these games because I've played them a lot. Anyone else experiencing this bug? It might happen every 50 resume from sleep? Not sure...

How much responsibility would a service like Signal have, if they were to inadvertently host a private group for pirated content? I believe signal groups can have up to 1000 members, and these members can be pretty anonymous given the need to only share an ephemeral username which can not be linked to a phone number or any other identity? Can they claim plausible deniability and not do anything?

The link previews saved in the media was quite annoying, glad to see they address that.

Quick question for other signal users: if you have the app automatically lock after a moment, when you try to share something using signal and need to unlock the app in the process, do you find yourself having to attempt the share process twice as the first time requires the app to be unlocked before the sharing works? Not sure if what I'm saying is clear?

Have you just installed jellyfin? The scraping for metadata for me took days literally. And the difficult time is that during the scraping, the interface is very slow.

You can monitor the scraping/parsing progress in settings > dashboard > libraries. The libraries have a sort of circular progress bar with a percentage symbol (only visible in this view) when parsing is ongoing.

You may want to change the following setting in that case: Settings > dashboard > playback > resume > Maximum resume percentage.

It will set the threshold of what is considered played (in percentage of video length). Default is 90%. Try lowering it?

Can chromium be used at all or are there specific google components required?

There is a way to place the secret file (corresponding to the password) on a dedicated USB stick and have a script attempt to Mount it at boot to unlock the partition. If the USB stick is not found, it will revert to the password prompt. Perhaps this is the best of both?

Make sure not to leave the USB stick plugged in, but rather only take it and and plug it in to boot then safely store it once booted, otherwise you are probably defeating the purpose of having an encrypted partition to begin with.

In this kind of debate, to people refer to tabs as actually entering the tab character, or to the use of tabs involving immediate replacement with a specified number of spaces?

For instance vscode allows the usage of the tab butting to enter 2 or 4 spaces when pressed, would that be considered tab or spaces?

1. There is no GrapheneOS account.
2. GrapheneOS has some built in apps, namely for SMS, gallery viewer, camera, PDF reader, calculator, contacts, files, phone and web browser (vanadium, based on chromium). GrapheneOS offers no cloud. You are responsible for using the service of your choice to manage and backup your data. It is currently undergoing a transition for backup management, but otherwise you can make use of a selfhosted service like nextcloud.
3. GrapheneOS does come preinstalled with its own app store but that it is reserved to GrapheneOS apps and the distribution of certain google services which can be optionally installed using their sandbox. Besides that, you can indeed install the aurora store to get access to the free apps on the google play store, or actually use the google play store. They can all be installed and used simultaneously. Though you might want to be mindful of you install an app on one store to not update it on another as the two versions could work differently (e.g. an app installed on f-droid might have a different notification system than one on the google play store). You do not need to use nextcloud if you don't want to. GrapheneOS has no dependencies on any other additional app. It is a standalone OS. Once you install it, you use it however you want.

Edit: one key advantage of GrapheneOS is the possibility of using multiple users. You can (and I recommend it) separate apps into different user profiles. You can for instance dedicate one user profile to apps requiring Google services, let's call it Gapps. GrapheneOS then allows you to then pipe your notifications between user accounts, so if you are in your main user profile you can get notifications from apps running in Gapps in the background. Very convenient.
