Btw, what's true and what is exagerated on whatever that thing was?

Meh, Westerners eat others after a plane crashes and people call them heroes, during the last famine China ever experienced a random article claims people ate other people, while not giving how society saw that is not very noteworthy for me.

The lack of reflection surely is nice, but it does read as anti chinese propaganda in the way it is presented and that it is presented.

As "whataboutism" I will mention Operation Phoenix (lots of CW torture):

      • the US killed and tortured more than 20-40k Vietnamese, one torturing French or US (they were partners in it) said that during his leadership of the program he doesn't know a single person who was left alive after "questioning" (so torture), examples include: wooden sticks being pushed into the ear till the person died

      • the French let tens of thousand Algerians be caught in night, tortured, sexually abused, and up to half of them were killed, later France and the US exported those techniques to South American dictators (the financing torture sites and black operations with drug money was already established).

      • in South America the US backed right wingers would use the same tactics against the left. The only reason we don't have a South Americas Federation of Socialist States is the violence, torture and murder of digits of the populace. France and the US would explicitly teach those techniques and tactics of mass oppression over close to 60 years.

My point is that the party itself seems to own up to the events and sees them as gratuitous. If the party itself, through their media, acknowledges such events occurred, I'm more inclined to believe they occurred, that's all.
