I couldn't even tell them how bullshit this was because I'm being supervised
I also love how it tries to paint the lack of famine and growth in GDP in China as eviiil. Oh god their bellies are full how horrible, their minds are so shackled.
Ah yes Liu Xiaobo the man who said that China is a backwater that needs "300 more years of white settler colonialism" to become civilized.
Highlights:
In January 1991, 19 months after his arrest, Liu Xiaobo was convicted of "counter-revolutionary propaganda and incitement" but he was exempted from criminal punishment due to his "major meritorious action" for preventing what could have been a bloody confrontation in Tiananmen Square. After his release, he was divorced; both his ex-wife and son subsequently emigrated to the US. He resumed his writing, mostly on human rights and political issues, but was not allowed to publish them in Mainland China.
Liu's writing is considered subversive by the Communist Party of China, and his name is censored. He called for multi-party elections and free markets, advocated the values of freedom, supported separation of powers and urged the governments to be accountable for its wrongdoings.
"[It would take] 300 years of colonialism. In 100 years of colonialism, Hong Kong has changed to what we see today. With China being so big, of course it would require 300 years as a colony for it to be able to transform into how Hong Kong is today. I have my doubts as to whether 300 years would be enough."
Fucking hell, they gave him a lot of slack tbh.
Also are these numbers completely made up? They're saying 1 million protestors and 200k soldiers, that sounds insane right?
I don’t see the numbers in the screenshot but a million protestors doesn’t seem like a stretch, it was a truly massive event that lasted over a month.
China just generally has bigger numbers than other countries sans perhaps India. But yeah anything this says is likely nonsense.
Apparently this is by someone named Ma Jian who lives in Britain, IDK who that is but I don't like him
bruh Chinese people know what Tiananmen it just really doesn't matter that much for people anymore it was like 30 years ago
Tiananmen protestors: "I feel bad for you."
Chinese people: "I don't think about you at all."
Of course these are often the children of those who have become mad rich from the Dengist reforms, but still.
I mean, that's your answer right there.
Oh knowing about it, alright. I was just saying that rich college kids from foreign countries aren't very representative, going off of what I know from the opinions of rich kids here going to America. Also my mother had a Chinese friend who worked for the CPC, and they gave her some sort of scholarship to do a PhD or masters or whatever it was abroad, but from what I gathered they were very strict about it and there was always the threat of cutting it off, so I wouldn't imagine they'd be very eager to anger someone.
I'm honestly so lucky my education was too euro-centric to look at Asia. I skipped so much propaganda due to racism.
CPC doesn't repress the 6/4 incident. The view is that they were dangerous radicals that the government rightly took action against. Sort of like how Americans view OWS. There's not much suppression needed because the propaganda worked and only one side of the story was told.
".......with less corruption and environmental devastation." :marx-angry:
Did you at least dock points for CCP being a nonexistent term that 5 seconds of research would show?
