I thought the lab conspiracy was just a fringe thing but now all the libs are peddling the Wuhan lab conspiracy and calling anyone who disagrees a right winger. What the fuck happened??

I wish an investigation into a potential accident at a virology laboratory could better prevent accidents like these in the future. Maybe I'm just cynical, but the biggest thing I expect the results would be used for would be to manufacture more consent for more confrontation with China.

Also, you're completely overlooking other reasons why the Global South was particularly hit so hard by this virus. They had much fewer resources to deal with the virus, and received little to no aid from better-off countries who were able to respond to the virus more effectively. Even now with things like vaccine patents the Global South is left with few resources to respond to the virus. I'm not saying preventing another viral outbreak in the future wouldn't resolve that issue - but it's disingenuous to point out the Global South specifically without addressing the conditions that caused them to be hit so hard.

True, but those conditions are unlikely to be solved in the near term so preventing another pandemic is essential for the health of everyone, but especially the global south

Honestly, labs should update their protocols as if this was an accidental lab leak regardless of whether or not it turns out to be the ultimate cause. Because it certainly wouldn't be the only time a virus escaped from a virology lab.
