Of all the South American left movements, they’ve probably had it the hardest. The little bit of momentum they had in the 80s was fucked over by probable op (or at least tacit funding from the right around the world) Sendero luminoso. Every nominally left candidate since turned out to be an IMF bootlicking ghoul.
Even if he won the battle is just ramping up. The amount of propaganda that capital is already spewing out is intense. And the libs would much rather side with the far right than have any semblance of left solidarity for the people. I mean most of them don't actually care, but all it takes is one of the many CNN or MSNBC segments to sway them. Or NYT putting out a, "Liberals, here's what you need to understand about Castillo" type of deal like they did with the daughter of a pro regime change fascist who lived in NYC their whole life with Venezuela.
But I'm happy for the people of Peru if this goes through, they're in dire need of actual reforms
Not to mention their legislative body is more dysfunctional than ours
They're going to kneecap the movement every half step of the way and it's just gonna be so depressing. At least they picked up like 23 seats I think it was, but it's not enough right now sadly
There are things that the administrative state can do that are extremely valuable though, like stop bulldozing tent cities

Critical support for thus, I don't have the same faith in Castillo and his party that I have for MAS in Bolivia who supported a different Peruvian left wing political party in the primary due to Peru libre's conservative social views.
What's funny here is the margin for Castillo is better than when a center right conservative ran against Keiko, shows probably the only instance where liberals chose to vote for the leftist over a fascist.
Veronika Mendozas party will caucus with him. Hopefully that will be a good influence
Peru Libre also has a pretty influential left wing that is socially progressive.
