      I can't wait for the US to invade Iran to secure a strategic supply of almonds on behalf of some wealthy ghouls. And as a fun game, replace "Iran" and "almonds" in that sentence and you can describe 200 years of American foreign policy.

    I think we need a good leftist answer to almonds, in general to agriculture specialization. Central CA is a region where almonds can be grown with lower pesticide use because of the lower humidity during the growing season. You could grow almonds in similar regions as peaches, based on "degree days" but the fungicide cost would be much higher for the same reason that irrigation would be less intensive: the water comes from the sky.
