I was promised cicadas, but I haven't heard or seen any. Is it still too early, or what?

I think there are some cicadas that aren't on these cycles, but it's wild to hear there aren't many. I'm in an area that they're not really a thing.
there are some pretty sharp geological divisions where the were and not this year. already seen carpets of dead ones in some places and none in others separated by about 70 miles.
You might live in the wrong region. I'm looking forward to some cicadas in a few years, but also was hurt when they made it sound like it was this year.
