      Yeah that's what I went for. Lot of leftover boxes from moving

          Yeah back when I did landscaping had a lady that'd cover all her gardens before we did mulch mania. Holds up surprisingly well. Shredded paper works good too for filling in the gaps if you use plastic sheeting. Like straw but better

    You could plant some native wildflowers or clover? If you live in a cold climate you could plant Brussels sprouts or kale, since they'll be able to live through some light frosts. Your local garden store might have some better ideas, too.
