My husband is switching health insurance and takes a branded medication that's $600 a month without insurance. He's had trouble in the past getting it approved because there is a generic version that is a slightly different molecule that the insurance company suggests, but that doesn't work as well for him. Is there a way to tell if the insurance accepts this medication before he switches?

    You could look up the formulary for the insurance company - it generally outlines what sorts of coverage there is for certain drugs - if it's covered it might likely require taking the generic/another alternative for a bit because health insurance is a fuck.

      Yes. Their formulary should be public. There will be different tiers, some drugs are going to be covered differently.
