      Also if you need to paint/do art, which photoshop can be really good for with custom brushes, use Krita, it's straight up better than photoshop for that in many way. Don't use GIMP for that, oh my god GIMP is trash at digital art, on top of the annoying UI.

      I've been using Gimp for ages, but doesn't Photoshop simply outclass it in about a million different ways especially if you need to do something even slightly more serious with it

        It outclasses it in the sense it can do things that neither program is designed for better than gimp. For instance, if you are trying to make digital art, both are bad options, but Photoshop is less bad. It also has advanced stuff gimp doesn't even have a shitty version of, like ai image manipulation, and crazy algorithms to do stuff like automatically delete fences and stuff.

        This doesn't matter as much as you might think, if you need to use that kinda stuff chances are you fucked up when you took the picture, and it still won't look too good once it's fixed. It just makes unacceptably bad shots mediocre.

        I sometimes use clip studio paint for stuff if I draw, it has a learning curve but if your not doing photo manipulation it can do the job and you can pick it up when it's on sale rather then pay a subscription like Photoshop

      I think it squeezes precisely “the petit bourgeoisie” (lol, independent digital creators/freelancers), whose work has to pass some compatibility framework. For my own entertainment can still pirate shit
