basic timeline:

  • Guy who goes by 117 decides to develop a high definition mode for a third-party client called RuneLite about 2-3 years ago.

-He makes good progress, even communicates with developers for the game and most of them seemed to be pretty impressed.

-He basically finished it this month and sent it to RuneLite's team for review

-Literally right as they're about to publish it, Jagex's (The company behind RuneScape and Old School RuneScape) demands them to not publish the plugin.

-117 and Jagex both issue statements on this issue at around the same time, jagex's is massively downvoted and 117's skyrockets to be the most upvoted post on the subreddit of all time

-Players are still currently holding riots in-game (A time honored tradition for the game's playerbase) and many have spammed screenshots of them cancelling membership because of the situation

This is like a PR disaster from the company who prides themselves on listening to the community and it's honestly made me doubtful for the future of the game.
