Tegan and Sara are Canadian indie rock/pop duo composed of twin sisters Tegan and Sara Quin. They've been writing music together for 25 years and released nine albums so far.

Tegan and Sara started writing music together in 1995, during high school. They released home demos with just the duo on guitar, eventually utilizing their school's limited studio equipment for better quality recordings. During this time the duo was playing local shows and slowly gaining attention. In 1998, they won a competition that gave them the chance to record in a professional studio and release a series of demos until finally releasing their first album in 1999 - Under Feet Like Ours.

The next four years for the duo was constant touring, recording, promoting albums, and back on the road. They releasing two more albums during this time, but it was their fourth album, So Jealous (2004), that brought them mainstream attention. Following the success of that album they released fan favorite album, The Con, in 2007. The Con was their darkest album lyrically - Sara struggling with Canadian immigration giving her American girlfriend a working visa so they could live together, the duo losing their grandmother, and dealing with the growing frustrations of sexism and homophobia that came from mainstream attention.

The Con is also when the duo started to experiment with electronic elements into their music. They further incorporated it on their 2009 album, Sainthood, and fully embracing a synth pop sound on their next two albums Heartthrob (2012) and Love You to Death (2016). Both of these albums were their most successful albums, being released on a major label instead of a subsidiary and also being their highest charting yet. They've since released one more album in 2019 featuring a mix of all their sounds throughout the years with an autobiography released around the same time.

As a young gay girl, seeing two cool gay musicians be out and popular in the 2000s meant so much to me. They'll always be one of my favorites.
