I don't know why they're fucking with Snus. Its essentially only available in Sweden and the US. Its banned across Europe despite cigs being A-okay.

its pasteurized so not remotely as awful for you, doesn't fuck with your lungs either.

Oropharyngeal cancer is really awful, aggressive and disfiguring; surgery is almost always necessary and the resulting drop in quality of life is almost unparalleled. Plus the interactions between ethanol and the carcinogens in treated tobacco, commonly combined in this age group, have an exponential and dramatic effect in creating ideal conditions for dysplasia and malignancy, especially when combined with an ideal environment for HPV transmission and colonization.

Of course, tobacco (in a pouch or not) will wreak havoc on your dentition, as well.

Yes, I don't disagree, but in comparison to chewing tobacco or smoking, snus is a far less harmful option according to the studies that have been done. One study followed something like 125k swedish construction workers who used snus and never smoked for 10-20 years and found no significant increase in cancer rates. Also the rate of occurrence of the identified cancer-causing molecules in things like chewing tobacco or snuff is something like a few orders of magnitude less

I'm not saying everyone should start using Snus, especially not boofing it, but it is considerably less harmful than other forms of tobacco use and doesn't leave my lungs feeling clogged like vaping. I don't think my nicotine usage is good but it could be worse. Also, I thankfully have some basic dental insurance that covers the twice a year checkups and the only complaint they have to me is I need to floss more. I've been an irregular snus user for around 5 years, mostly when I need a kick.

I agree with everything you said. I'm not attacking anybody's use of snus or tobacco. Nicotine by itself isn't that bad of a drug for younger adults, apart from the addiction itself, but later in life it can really exacerbate arterial and cardiovascular disease.

From a public health perspective, in a country with subsidized and universal health care, banning a well studied, known carcinogen makes perfect sense. Personally, I don't agree with that decision, and completely understand why they're appealing the ban.

yeah from a public health perspective I get it too. I get sorta annoyed with lop sided hyper targeted banning of substances. Like if the EU just said "sorry no more smoking or snus or anything", it'd be different. The EU banned oral tobacco with the main consideration being chewing tobacco which is some awful awful stuff, but left cigarettes because France would riot at levels never before seen. Sweden would probably drop out of the EU before seriously accepting a ban on snus.
