52% white people for anti-Asian hate crimes. White people account for ~59% of the population in the USA. On average, also, they're probably in more homogeneous (white) communities so you'd expect them to be less likely to commit hate crimes purely because they're around minorities less. There's other discussions to be had over the numbers, too, but the point remains that a lot of the crimes were committed by white people.
where are you getting this number from? I checked and it's more like 63%

you mean white Americans period. A huge amount of poor whites essentially live in segregated rural communities where they also wouldn't interact with Asians.

Yeah, I was deliberately being kind of generous because there are a certain number of white people who do live in somewhat diverse neighborhoods. But, as you say, American desegregation was a joke.

this is why the r*dditors are going nuts about black people in the comments because its higher than the national percentage of black people, and its too much work to factor in that crime is mostly done to people in close proximity and (due to some totally mystifying factors probably related to skull shape and nothing else), american cities can be kinda racially-segregated, so that if you corrected for local demographics the racial component would presumably all but disappear
just reflect their own statistics back at them.
