    He ends up kind of landing on "China made mistakes and then retreated a bit from their initial victories - but don't confuse that with failure, and don't confuse the heights they've reached with victory, since the revolutionary process by its nature requires a lot of failing and starting over", and as the other poster said that's just one aspect of the piece.

    It's a good read.
