    I am a bit OOTL about the situation in Ukraine following the 2014 coup. Who would Russia be protecting Ukrainian civilians against according to him?

          From my understanding, they've attacked Ukraine's military infrastructure to make it more difficult for them to regain control in the two separatist regions.

          So it's protecting the civilians of Donbas by crippling the military of Ukraine.

              We'll have to wait to see what the result of this is, and I can only hope for the best.

              If the western media is right and it is an annexation, then I'll admit to being wrong. But it really doesn't look like that, so I'm going to keep giving Russia the benefit of the doubt for now.
