BBC news has always been an imperialist bum rag and has recently taken a hard turn into bigotry, but the rest of what it produces especially its documentary and educational content is leagues better than what the vast majority of what corporate media is putting out in the anglosphere.
After it’s gutted, what replaces BBC news will not be less imperialist, or less of a reactionary weapon. The real effect of this bill will be to remove any hope of salvaging BBC news if a socdem/leftish government ever comes to power, the loss of all the educational and documentary content it was in the public interest but not maximally profitable to make and (the reason this is happening) letting capitalists make billions in the process of destroying the last free to air TV channel in the UK that doesn’t assault its viewers with advertisements.
The sitting government has an enormous amount of power over the BBC, that the Tories have been in power since 2010 is the main reason the BBC has spent the last 12 years getting increasingly reactionary.
The Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport directly appoints four of the 12 BBC Board members (its highest governing body), and writes its corporate charter, which, along with its funding must be re-approved by the sitting government at least once every 7 years.
The Tories aren't cutting the BBC's funding and airspace as some method of control, they already have full control of the BBC, they're doing it to make money and remove competition for Sky & ITV, and by selling it to reactionary capitalists ensure that the BBC (or at least whatever's occupying its airspace) will be reactionary and anti-labour even if they lose power, which is not the case now.

I don’t see anything to celebrate in that.
