How often do you guys wash your drink bottles? Google tells me I'm meant to wash it daily, which is a bit concerning because I do it about 30x less than that 😬

I usually go based on when it starts to smell weird. I usually go on the (really flawed) philosophy of "we didn't evolve for millions of years just to die because of an infrequently cleaned drink bottle" but I feel concerned because I'm usually not that far behind what's recommended

That makes me feel a little better. Mines also metal with no straw and only ever has filtered tap water in there

The main bit to look after is the rubber seal if it has one because they can get moldy. So wash it with soapy water and rinse, rinse, rinse and let it dry naturally overnight if you can.

It partly depends on what it is made of and what sort of opening it has. Plastic, particularly soft plastic, is a surface that algae and things can easily cling to so yucky things build up easily. You probably want to wash those out thoroughly on a more regular basis, although I wouldn't say you have to do it daily unless it you do things like add lemon slices or have a stye that any contents can touch your mouth. Stainless steel, hard plastics and glass have surfaces that stay clean a lot longer, and if you are regularly changing the water in it there should not be a problem leaving it a long time between cleans - especially if you are filling with tap water as that still contains residual chlorine.

The lid itself is another matter as you are putting that in/against your mouth. That bit should be cleaned very regularly, probably a basic clean every day, with a thorough clean of any inside surfaces every week - if you have a style with a straw make sure you get a brush that can clean inside it.

I've got a stainless steel one from Kmart. Not particularly high end but it gets the job done

I don't really clean any part of it very regularly at all, I just go by how it smells, looks, or feels. But oil test to keep that in mind
