I mean of course most of the pro-cryptocurrencies chuds are ancaps or affiliated, but isn't a private cryptocurrency like monero for example useful to evade the surveillance state ?

I agree there are no technical solutions to social problems. But in short term they can help as scapegoat.

Maybe cool to pay for stuff without the state noticing, but investing etc. in cryptocurrency is ancap BS imo

I guess its a neat idea, but in practice most of them are ponzi schemes. I would definitely encourage people to migrate towards mutual aid and gift economy models rather than just doing capitalism but making the currency harder to track. In my opinion a better use of our time to fight the surveillance state is smashing security cameras, spreading awareness and propaganda, and protesting for the right to privacy. Wasting time inventing clever technical tricks that 95% of people cant use feels like a posh hobby not a real fight against the surveillance state. I haven't looked into monero in a long time, but didnt the feds figure out some way to track people with it anyway? I mean if it works well and can be used for organizing then by all means use it for that.

100% agree, organization is way more important. Idk about the feds, I don't think so ? Maybe I'm wrong tho

I wouldn't like my paycheque being put into something that can be so heavily manipulated, as well as stolen online or wiped by a fridge magnet.

That being said it was amazing to buy drugs with, back when I did that sort of thing. Everything I purchased was the highest quality stuff I've ever had.

    I wish Venezuela's cryptocurrency was

    a) real

    b) worth something

    c) legal to buy

cause then I'd snatch it up to support Venezuela and feel good and weird.
