    This is how disconnected the mainstream and social media has made westerners to reality. They think they can do anything, just imagine it and poof it exists.

    It's because the media convinced them. It's frightening how much media can just create "reality" out of thin air. It's straight out of 1984.

      It's been going on longer than social media. People in the 1980s wrote satirically things to the effect of "Americans can have entire conversations of nothing but film and TV quotes", or even advertising taglines! If you polled Adults on Western countries on a list of like 15 historical events vs film plots, I bet many would struggle to distinguish the films from reality.
