How did Jordan Peterson get so popular again? Just for being a conservative and having popular internet opinions?

I'm guessing that to normies he's an "intellectual that's one of us!" like a Noam Chomsky or Judith Butler for hogs. But why him? There's plenty of economics and business professors that agree with Jordan Peterson on many things.

Sure, him being an intellectual telling people what they want to hear will get you noticed, but to the extent where he's on par with Keanu Reeves and Elon Musk for redditors to circlejerk about?

I remember it like: initial thing he got famous for was misunderstanding a Canadian bill dealing with discrimination. One of his students had transitioned part way through the class and Peterson continued to deadname her and use the wrong pronouns. Student filed with the school for harassment. Peterson refused to use the student's preferred pronouns, saying that any attempt to coerce him into doing so was evil Marxist commie tyranny. Chuds had a field day with him, comparing him to Rosa Parks.

        He didn't misunderstand

He purposefully misrepresented the bill so he could complain about nothing

        He's a grifter

A part of it is that psychology is seen as a kind of left wing science by a lot of chuds. A lot of findings of psychology go against their preconceived notions of how you should treat other people, and yourself. Don't beat kids. Don't make fun of fat people to make them healthier. Trans people are helped more by transitioning than by trying to squash their transness out of them. Believing wholeheartedly in western masculinity is harmful to men. Etc

JBP is "their guy" in that space. This is necessary because a lot of them believe in the aesthetics of science. While psychology has a lot of problems as a science, a lot of its conclusions are based on data. Thus they need a psych daddy to tell them that no, the science is on their side.

Anyway, I think that's part of it.

Another is he was outspoken as an academic (which again, is seen as "left wing") when the pronouns thing was the flavour of the day

That might be the linchpin. Furthermore, this is why I refuse to take any outcry on "cancel culture" seriously. Being canceled was a net positive for the internet's favorite people. The only person I could think of that got successfully canceled was....Bill Nye. For not screeching that God hates the gay people and the trans people. No one could really handle that.

Yeah, that was definitely the main one. Right place at the right time. I just wanted to offer some other thoughts about psychology and therapy and stuff

He basically went viral for being publicly transphobic and has kept his popularity up since but building an audience of self help rubes.
