I literally have not followed this story but to float the idea out there this far in advance after being so indifference or outright opposed to it before now strikes me as Biden just going "oh no I hope nobody STOPS me from forgiving all this debt... it sure would be a shame if someone said I couldn't do this!"

That way he doesn't actually have to do it. The libs get to feel more righteous indignation toward Republicans without ever recognizing the real power dynamic, and Biden gets to pretend he has progressive cred.

Inclined to agree not just with these chud worms grandstanding but the cancellation in general. Dudes just trying to inflate his abysmal poll numbers which are particularly bad among young people.

Talk is cheap. If Biden wanted to cancel loans he would have done it already, he has the authority to do it with the stroke of a pen. The fact that he hasn’t means he’s ideologically opposed. Even if he did cancel some it would be super means tested or tied to something horrific like $5k for every year spent working for a defense contractor

I think suspension of payments into perpetuity is a much more likely scenario than outright cancellation, i can see loan repayments turning into something of a political third rail for a solid block of the population

The fact that he hasn’t means he’s ideologically opposed.

Ideologically opposed is certainly one way to describe the man who is literally the architect of the student loan crisis via the 2005 bankruptcy reform bill that he championed.

Yeah good point I always forget about that, I tend to tie that in my mind to bush but it was a bipartisan success lol

They still need money for reelection, this is probably the best political decision they could make, suspend it and let's the GOP undo it, the one that hurt would be the GOP. If senile Joe cancels it or whoever dumb enough to advise to cancel it, in a congress that the dem hold, It's would be one of the stupidest political moves ever. At that point, his approval rating should be worst than Trump, by a yuge amount.

If they go through with this in a congress that they hold. Even the most lib in r/politic wouldn't able to spin it out of this.

The propaganda have to block the other side to make the most out of it. How they’re going to spin out of this after years of blasting propaganda about canceling student loan, make the rich pay, corporations and Putin responsible for the economy. Then suddenly turn around and said, yea, we should follow the GOP, lmao. His poll already low among young voters, good luck getting them back

No need to call them that when there's far more accurate and far less dated insults that better apply to them.

If you call someone a "motherfucker" as an insult you are implying that fucking your mom is bad.

If you call someone a "cocksucker" as an insult, you are implying that sucking a cock is bad.

Maybe I came on a bit too hard there. I didn't really intend to tone police you as much as I prefer calling them bloodsucking ghouls and it doesn't even have the risk of baggage.

My intended tone and context wasn't "cocksucker is forbidden" as much as "sucking cock would be a lot better than what they're actually doing."

Relatable. In my case, I tend to blow a fuse if someone says "both sides" about something as my own personal bugbear, even if there really are two sides to something that are comparable. I got that sick and tired of South Parkian enlightened centrism.

What I love about this is you get to the bottom of what would be a cesspool on :reddit-logo: and instead of hell, we get this comradely mutual recognition.

Everyone in the thread gets a :gold-communist:

I agree it's cool to get this mutual recognition, but I also wish we could call people out for using language that actually hurts to see without that kind of defensive response

Just, how many people have to tell you it makes them uncomfortable for that to outweigh that you want to say it? Why should we be expected to put up with that because other phrases just don't have the tone you're trying to express?

And come on, cocksucker is not a common insult like idiot. It's already beyond the pale for a lot of people. And can you honestly not see why? You genuinely don't see the misogynistic and homophobic subtext here? Your earlier "that's not how invective works" comment for when people pointed this out is shit I've heard people say about slurs, for god's sake, can you apply just a bit more critical thinking to this?

You don't see the misogynistic and homophobic subtext of "you suck cocks, and that's a bad thing"?

I'm asking you as a comrade. This makes a lot of us uncomfortable and there are myriad ways you can express the same thing. It makes the space much less hostile for so many of us if you would just choose a different word and especially if you don't double down like this. Is saying that word truly so important to you?

Is the parmesanitarian gonna step in again and be like "nooo you can't because of my authority that never existed until the moment you threw the idea of raising minimum wage out there it would be dangerous for our democracy you gotta vooooooooooote"

There should be a revolving cast of faker, more imperious, and more British-sounding functionaries who the Dems can blame for their inability to ever do anything. When the parliamentarian doesn't work, they pin it on the next one.

Biden appeases these dipshits all day every day and they still hate his guts. If I were him I'd just cancel student debt out of spite for them and their corporate overlords.

Yeah but... can't he just veto it? They're trying to do it with a congressional bill, so...
