My extended family is a bunch of devout catholics and its been really interesting seeing how they reconcile Pope Francis, the actual teachings of the Catechism about the less fortunate, and the worn out "christianity" of the United States that gets peddled by reactionaries. One of the big struggle points was the border issue where a bunch of nominally catholic or culturally catholic migrants/immigrants/refugees get treated like shit by the reactionary USA gov't and they have to sit and admit they voted for this.
