Send them something about it, doesn't have to be big, just contribute in some way to complaining about it.

This is the nation state equivalent of what companies do to pride, nevermind the fact lgbt people are systemically oppressed in Ukraine.

Can you imagine if this became a thing? The British flag jacketing pride? The American flag jacketing pride? The flags of the very countries that lgbt people have to fight against in order to not be oppressed?

It completely misunderstands who lgbt people have to fight, why lgbt have their own flag and identity independent of the flag and identity of their nation in the first place -- it is the nation state that threatens and oppresses them.

    EDIT: I received a response.

The flag in question is a) not the official flag we use, and b) was designed to show support for LGBTQ+ people in Ukraine who we have been supporting over the past few months, as well as to show solidarity with those who arrive in Ireland. One such person we have employed and we also felt it was important to show solidarity with her.

We are well aware of the regressive and harmful actions of the Ukrainian state, and as we liaise frequently with LGBT+ organisations operating there, we know full well that it is not a nation worthy of merit in terms of equal rights for minorities. However, we felt it was important to show solidarity as mentioned above.

You may not agree with this position and that is your right but I just wanted to shed some light on it.

    Cheers,

    Jamie

the flag still feels weird, but this sounds like an honest and well-informed response. back when i was in Berlin recently, which is a major transit hub for Ukrainian refugess moving westwards, i saw a lot of outreach projects specifically adressing LGBT refugees from there and i think that may be the only genuinely good thing coming out of this situation. these people deserve a safe place to live and Ukraine won't be that place even if the war would end tomorrow.

The flag IS weird. It shouldn't be jacketed, they should be two separate distinct entities, lgbtq+ people and the Ukrainian state. People may belong to both but they shouldn't be merged as if part of the same struggle, the struggle for lgbt people is against their states.

What if I told you they had two honest and well-informed responses? One they use on leftists, and one they used on rightoids.
